Erste interdisziplinäre ADMIT Summer School für Medizinische Physik

Lisa Kempus

What an inspiring and motivated group at our first ADMIT Interdisciplinary Summer School of Medical Physics, held from August 19 to 22 at Rauischholzhausen Castle!  The course brought together around 30 early-career researchers in the field of MedicalPhysics. The goal was to offer comprehensive insights into the various fields, as well as networking opportunities and interdisciplinary skills, with a special focus on translating research into clinical and industrial applications.

Our highlights:

Lectures by our ADMIT PIs and members on their disciplines with the opportunity to discuss current challenges, interdisciplinary interfaces, and future perspectives

Hands-on sessions where participants could actively engage and gain practical experience

Keynote lecture by Prof. Dr. Oliver Jäkel (DKFZ Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum) on "Image Guided Therapy: Why and How?"

Workshop on Science Communication, with a special focus on LinkedIn by Dr. Aylin Balmes and Maike Stelter from PhDSciCom

Insights into Innovation Management and industrial application by Dr. Oliver Schrenk from PTW

Dedicated participants who fostered a welcoming atmosphere to expand networks and further collaboration

The event was also supported with a donation from the Gemeinnützige Hertie-Stiftung. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved and look forward to our next Summer School 2026!

  • On the Way to Accounting for Lung Modulation Effects in Particle Therapy of Lung Cancer Patients - A Review
Particle therapy presents a promising alternative to conventional photon therapy for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the heterogeneous structure of lung tissue leads to the degradation of the Bragg peak and thereby to the degradation of the dose distribution. This review offers a comprehensive overview of the models developed to account for these modulation effects. It...
